SEM issues profit warning

Sports Entertainment and Media (SEM), the agency which boasts Patrick Viera and Lennox Lewis as its clients, has warned the stock exchange that its year-end profits will be below expectations.

Blaming the slowdown of transfer activity this summer and the company's decision to postpone pursuing opportunities in Formula One, the company said that the group's full-year results for the financial year just ended, although sigificantly ahead of last year, would be below market forecasts.

As a consequence, the company has decided to alter its financial year-end from June 30 to September 30, commencing next year.

The company's chief executive Jerome Anderson said: "The deferral of football revenue at the back end of the last financial year as a consequence of the World Cup is a short-term issue and does not detract from the strength of our business.

"The prospects for SEM are excellent as we build our pool of top sporting and entertaiment talent. Key to our success is the long-term view we take, demonstrated by our drive to nurture new talent, the extension of our activities internationally and the spreading of contracted income over the life of contracts.

"This approach is building a strong and sustainable business, insulated against short-term issues."
