The cable broadcaster will screen live three-round coverage of between 10 and 15 events on the Senior PGA Tour as of the 2003 season as well as presenting Friday action for the majority of the circuit's tournaments, taking over from the Tour's existing partner Pax TV.
The agreement with the Golf Channel is part of the restructuring of the broadcasting of the Senior PGA Tour which will also see the role of CNBC reduced although the latter channel will continue to provide taped weekend action from the Tour's events not picked up by the Golf Channel.
The Senior PGA Tour is expected to stage between 30 and 32 tournaments in 2003 with the scheduling of events on the Golf Channel still to be confirmed.
Although the Golf Channel deal, which will see a minimum of two hours of live action broadcast daily, is only for one year initially, a spokesperson from the network stated that it is 'looking to build a long-term partnership with the Senior PGA Tour'.
The Golf Channel has tied up a rights deal for live coverage of the Senior PGA Tour, beginning as of next year.
