The Irish Cricket Union was unanimously supported by the International Cricket Council to host the event.
The tournament features 12 non-Test playing countries and allows them to qualify to play against the best players in the world.
"It's a terrific feather in the cap for Irish cricket," John Caldwell, the Irish Cricket Union's chairman John Caldwell said.
"We are in the throes of staging the European Championships and the news that the world tournament is now coming Ireland's way is a wonderful double."
