Rio wants 2007 PanAm Games

Tagged in

Brazilian Olympic Committee president Carlos Nuzman has told sportbusiness.com that San Antonio, Texas, should pull out of its bid to host the 2007 Pan American Games, leaving the field clear for Rio de Janeiro.

Nuzman asserted that the choice of host country should be governed by an already established 'informal rotation process' that would see the 2007 Games hosted by a South American country.
"There is an undeniable need to develop sports in all the Americas as a whole, and not to confine it to a sole country or region," Nuzman said. "This is why we are proposing to the Pan American Sports Organisation's (PASO) voting members that they maintain the informal rotation among the continents that has taken place since 1971."
Brazil has not staged the Pan American Games since SC#o Paulo 1963, whereas the US last hosted the Games in Indianapolis in 1987.
