With many analysts pointing to the fact that the impressive stadia used in the World Cup in Japan and South Korea could prove to be white elephants, the governmental sports council has reaffirmed its long-term intentions for the facilites to used in Manchester.
Said David Moffett, chief executive of Sport England: "The City of Manchester Stadium shows that we can build world-class facilities that offer value for money and don't become a drain on resources. I'm confident that the City of Manchester Stadium will have a long and healthy life, providing a wonderful focus for the community and will be the setting for many memorable sporting moments."
The 38,000 seater stadium cost £110 million ($167m/EUR172m) to build, using £77m ($117m/EUR120m)of national lottery funding. After the Games are finished, the stadium will be converted into a 48,000 seater arena to be used by English Premier League team Manchester City.
The stadia built in Manchester for this year's Commonwealth Games will prove to be a worthwhile investment, Sport England has claimed.
