FINA makes a splash

Swimming's profile will be greatly improved by the Commonwealth Games, according to Cornel Marculescu, executive director of FINA, the sport's world governing body.

Last year, swimming was embroiled in legal rows after FINA admitted that its automatic system failed at the World Swimming Championships.

The governing body was also heavily criticised after the Australian and American 4x200 women's relay teams were disqualified from the 9th World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

"Although not being a FINA competition, the image of our sport will certainly be enhanced by the Commonwealth Games," Marculescu told sportbusiness.com
