'Out of home' viewers boost ratings

New research has revealed that a high percentage of sports fans watched England's World Cup clash with Argentina from an 'out of home' venue, raising the total viewing figures for the game to 21.3 million.

The study, from Sporting Insights, showed that 43 percent of fans left their homes to tune in to England's 1-0 victory, which was screened by public broadcaster the BBC.
Pubs and sports clubs were the main beneficiaries of this move but approximately 10 percent of viewers caught the game, which kicked off at 12.30pm GMT, from their offices at work.
The additional figures mean that nearly a third of the British population watched the tie despite its Friday lunchtime scheduling.
