Golf Channel renews European Tour deal

US cable network The Golf Channel has renewed its coverage of the PGA European Tour in a new TV rights deal.

The new agreement, which begins with the 2004 season, means that The Golf Channel will televise a minimum of 32 European Tour events each year through until 2007.
The Golf Channel, which broadcasts throughout the US, Canada and Japan, will add the PGA European Tour to its array of content which includes the US PGA Tour and a number of golf-related magazine shows and training programmes.
The network, which is eight years old and hit profitability last year, will televise at least 34 PGA European Tour events this year from the Tour's schedule of more than 45 tournaments in at least 22 countries each year.
The new deal also gives The Golf Channel the exclusive broadcast rights in Japan to the next 3 Ryder Cups (2002, 2004 and 2006).
