The Commonwealth Games is not losing its appeal, says Mike Hales, director of communications at Manchester 2002, the host organisation for this summer's Games.
"The Commonwealth Games is about celebrating a community - it is a family event where competitors from 72 different nations have a common language and culture.
"The Olympic Games is much more a corporate event."
Hales goes on to say that ticket sales for the Games this year are already about three times higher than at the last Commonwealth Games.
