Scottish club dies

The liquidator acting for Scottish Third Division soccer club Airdrieonians has failed to find a buyer for the club, condemning it to the history books.

KPMG said no offers had been received for the club name or the stadium, following the club's slide into liquidation at the end of last season.

However, local council officials say they are hopeful a new Airdrie will rise from the club's ashes and apply to join the league.
Said a KPMG statement: "Given the existence of other variants of the 'Airdrie FC' name, the joint interim liquidators are no longer seeking offers for the Airdrieonians Football and Athletic club.
"The stadium was being sold as a package alongside the club name in order to maximise the chances of an application being made to the SFL for a new Airdrie FC to play in the Third Division next season."
