Octagon will deliver a wide range of services to CART including distribution and production of the franchise's television rights internationally, sponsorship and media sales, and the creation of new events.
Octagon's relationship with CART has already begun prior to the official announcement of the tie-up made at the race in Long Beach over the weekend. The two have been working together to develop a unified approach across all services which can be delivered both in the US and worldwide.
Octagon CSI, the agency's television arm, has already secured several TV rights contracts to support the CART FedEx Championship Series for the 2002 season, which started on March 10 with the Tecate Telmex Monterrey Grand Prix.
The appointment of Octagon by CART is part of the latter's recent restructuring as it bids to keep pace with rival US motor racing series NASCAR.
Octagon, which is spreading its wings further on an international basis, has secured a notable coup in winning the CART contract, adding its already significant motor sports client portfolio.
Les Delano, group chief executive of Octagon, said: "CART is clearly a unique product with huge potential and one that we know we can develop for the benefit of fans, TV audiences, teams and sponsors."
Meanwhile, British car manufacturer MG has agreed to provide engines for the FedEx Cart Championship next season.
