FIBA & ULEB set to team up?

Tagged in &

Representatives from rival basketball groups FIBA and ULEB have held talks in Spain with a view to them both co-operating with the running of the Euroleague.

The pair have had a rocky ride since ULEB formed a rival to FIBA's European league competition two years ago. The following season, FIBA pulled out of running its league altogether.

But talks yesterday in Barcelona centred on the possibility of an agreement that allows the recognition of the Euroleague as a competition integrated within the official competitions of FIBA Europe.

Said a FIBA spokesman: "After the meeting, satisfactory foundations have been laid down in all the debated issues and it has been decided that during the next few days FIBA deputy general secretary, Patrick Baumann, and Euroleague CEO, Jordi Bertomeu, will elaborate a written version of the agreement for consideration and approval by both parties."
