Earlier this week, BT revealed it was to slash the cost of its wholesale broadband costs - meaning consumers would be able to have fast net access at home for between £20-30 ($28.3/EUR32.7-$42.49/EUR49.1) - saving almost half of existing costs.
It means take-up for key sport packages online - for example those run by the likes of many of the major soccer clubs - will be accessible to what is expected to be a rapidly increasing consumer base.
Currently UK broadband take-up has been slow as a result of high costs and limited availability.
