Vikings stadium bill advances

The Minnesota Vikings NFL franchise has received approval by a Senate government committee to share a planned new stadium with the University of Minnesota.

The proposed $440m (EUR505.9m) retractable-roof stadium will be financed through a combination of taxes on sports merchandise, ticket taxes that would apply to the existing Metrodome stadium, as well as a new sports-themed lottery game and a parking fee.

Under the plan, the team and the NFL would contribute $150m (EUR170m) to the stadium.
