(Reuters) Less than a month after Nevada state officials rejected a bid by the former world champion to fight Lewis in what is expected to be the richest bout in boxing history, America's capital stepped in and granted Tyson a license.
Washington, D.C., Boxing and Wrestling Commission Vice Chairman Mike Brown stated that the three-member board issued a preliminary ruling approving Tyson's request for a license that would allow him to fight Lewis on June 8 at the city's MCI Center.
"We've decided to move forward with Mr. Tyson's application," Brown said. "We're still in the running with some other cities, but are hopeful."
