Amid chaotic scenes in New York, promoters revealed the bout - expected to generate well in excess of $100m - will indeed take place on April 6 in Las Vegas, as widely predicted.
However, the specially arranged press conference still held some surprises when Tyson initiated an on-stage brawl with Lewis, during which Lewis claims Tyson bit him.
Reigning three-time world heavyweight champion Lewis will defend his crown against former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson live on pay per view - in a previously unheard of joint deal between HBO and Showtime - on April 6 at the MGM Grand.
"It's a good day for boxing when a broadcast arrangement can be made that benefits Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson, the sport and its fans," said HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg.
"This is the right fight for every reason, for the fighters, for the fans, for the networks and for the boxing industry," said Mark Greenberg, EVP and general manager, Showtime Sports & Event Programming.
Lewis-Tyson is presented by Lion Promotions, Main Events and Mike Tyson Enterprises. The showdown will be co-produced and co-distributed by HBO and Showtime.
