Baseball owners have voted to approve the $660million(EUR748.6m) purchase of the Boston Red Sox.

Owners voted 29-0, with the New York Yankees abstaining, to ratify the deal with a consortium headed by Florida Marlins owner John Henry.

The new ownership team includes Tom Werner, the former owner of the San Diego Padres; Larry Lucchino, the former president of the Padres and Baltimore Orioles; and former Senate Majority Leader George
Mitchell.

The group should take control in late February after the sale closes.
