It means that despite hopes, the subscription-only channel will not be carried on Sky's platform before the resumption of the UEFA Champions League - many games of which ITV broadcast on the channel.
It is believed ITV Digital wants £80million ($115.6m/EUR129.8m) from Sky to carry the channel - a figure Sky have so far refused to pay.
Analysts have long said ITV cannot afford to restrict its sports channel to ITV Digital if it wants to remain viable. It has exclusive rights to Worthington Cup and Football League soccer action.
According to reports on the BBC, it is now believed talks have been postponed indefinitely.
