Sony has agreed to extend its title sponsorship of the Sony Open in Hawaii through 2006.

The electronics giant has been the title sponsor of the official PGA Tour event since 1999, since when prize money has more than tripled.
"The Sony Open is not only a premier sports event, but it is also an extraordinary marketing vehicle that allows us to keep improving one of the world's most valuable brand names," said Nobuyuki Idei, chairman and CEO, Sony Corporation.
He added: "The Sony Open in Hawaii reaches millions of television viewers globally, yet it also serves several important purposes for the Hawaiian community. The event generates millions of dollars for the Hawaiian economy, and raises money and awareness for some of Hawaii's most notable causes through the Friends of Hawaii Charities and The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.''

Sony Open prize money for the tournament will increase in each year of the sponsorship, rising from $4.5 million(EUR5.0m) in 2003 to $5.5m (EUR6.2m) in 2006.
