Financial problems at the RFL originate from the ill-fated World Cup in 2000 when it lost £700,000 ($1m/EUR1.1m). Its debts are now estimated to be in the region of £1.7m ($2.5m/EUR2.8m).
Along with redundancies, the RFL is also expected to announce plans to merge the RFL and the Super League. The RFL's chairman Sir Rodney Walker has already said that unification is his main objective before he steps down in May.
