The Libyan Arab Foreign Investment Company (LAFICO) plans to raise its stake in Italian soccer club Juventus to 20 percent from 5.3 percent, the son of Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi has said.

(Reuters) "The current stake that we own is just a starting point as over the next few years we are seeking to hold 20 percent of the shares," Al-Saadi Gaddafi said in sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport. Juventus said on Tuesday that Lafico had bought a 5.31 percent stake of its newly listed shares. At current prices, that stake was worth around 20 million euros ($17.86 million).
The soccer club is controlled by the Ifi holding company of the powerful Agnelli family which controls Fiat which was part owned by Lafico in the 1970s and 1980s.
