Savill to stay on as BHB chairman

Tagged in

A restructuring of the management of the British Horseracing Board (BHB) will see Peter Savill stay on in his role as chairman until 2004 although in a non-executive capacity.

Savill has agreed to a further two-year term as BHB chairman when his present term expires in June 2002. However, a full-time chief executive is currently being recruited who will take on the day-to-day running of the board.
BHB is also creating a further new role in the form of a managing director for the commercial department of the body, working directly beneath the new chief executive. Nigel Smith, previously a chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers, has been appointed to this post.
The restructuring changes have been enforced due to the impending alterations to the BHB's role in light of the transfer of Levy Board funding responsibilities and the introduction of commercial data licensing to replace the statutory levy.
