Six Nations format altered

Tagged in &

The organising committee of the Six Nations has decided to change the scheduling of the competition with effect from 2003.

A majority vote at a meeting in Paris found in favour of shortening the championship to seven weeks rather than playing matches on alternate weekends.

Matches will be played on the first, second, fourth, sixth and seventh weekends, with the final round taking place on the last weekend in March.

The change comes despite the strong objections of the Welsh Rugby Union.
