Attheraces plans evening races

Tagged in

Attheraces, the media consortium that has bought up most media rights on 49 racecourses in the UK, is looking to reschedule some of its races to evening meetings to complement its 24-hour interactive television station to be launched in May 2002.

Paul Greeves, the racing director of the British Horseracing Board, told the Racing Post newspaper: "Together with the Racecourse Association, we were invited to a meeting by their chief executive Christopher Stoddart to discuss the Attheraces contract. It was a preliminary meeting and they did mention some changes to the fixture list which they felt might be beneficial. We listened to them and asked them to come back to us with more details and to refine what they wanted."

Greeves said that the Levy Board, as well as other sections of the industry including trainers and individual bookmakers, would have to be consulted before any changes could be introduced.
