Government poised to scrap football pools tax

The betting industry in the UK is hoping for some more good news from the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Pre-Budget report tomorrow.

The government has already scrapped the nine percent betting tax and says it will soon introduce less stringent casino and gambling laws, as recommended in the Budd report.
But Sportech, the owners of the Littlewood’s betting and gaming business since September 2000, is hoping that Gordon Brown will announce that he is to scrap the 17.5 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) levy on football pools.
