Aussie Rules outlines financial strategy

The Australian Football League (AFL) Commission has outlined its key financial strategies for its national competition to all AFL club presidents and chief executives.

The package, described as "fundamental to the future of our national code" included financial forecasts suggesting AFL payments to clubs will reach $96million (B108.83m) by 2006, almost a 100 percent increase from $50m (B56.68m) in 2000.

Total AFL revenue is forecast to grow 73 percent between 2000-2006, the league estimated, and AFL payments to clubs will represent 97 percent of the minimum forecast total player payments by 2006.

"The package outlined today puts in place the foundation for clubs' sustainability into the future," AFL Commission chairman Ron Evans said.
