The BBC, which clinched a deal worth £160m for the rights to the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, alongside commercial broadcaster ITV, wants to harness the technology it developed for its coverage of Wimbledon and the British Open golf tournament.
Peter Sprogis, CEO of Kirch-owned Prisma iVentures, said: "It's possible that the BBC could offer a service like this. However, I'm sure there will be some discussions about what can and can't be done."
The BBC and Kirch are to hold talks over plans for the UK broadcaster to offer an interactive World Cup service to its digital viewers.
