Manchester United teams up with Sportsetail

Sportsetail, the online and direct mail merchandising business run by broadcaster BSkyB and clothing firm Hay & Robertson, has been awarded the right to distribute Manchester United merchandise.

For an initial three-year term, with a further three year extension, Sportsetail will devise, develop, publish and distribute Manchester united replica kit and other products via its direct mail catalogue and manage all sales generated on the ManUtd.com website.

Said Lance Yates, chief executive of Hay & Robertson: “This association with Manchester United and their future partner Nike, along with our agreements with FIFA and the Football Association, will act as a cornerstone for Sportsetail’s activities within the world of football.”

Manchester United’s deal with Nike will see the club net £300m ($423m/B480m) over the next 10 years and will give Sportsetail the right to sell the new Nike replica kit and training wear due to be launched in the summer of 2002.

Speaking about the deal, Peter Kenyon, chief executive of Manchester United, said: “We have been partners with Hay & Robertson for several years, and are pleased to be joining forces with them in this new venture.

"In Sportsetail they have the right operation to help us grow our merchandising business across all the club’s direct sale distribution channels and give our fans the range of products and customer service they need. This fits perfectly into our long-term strategy of using established and new media to deliver Manchester United products to our global fan base.”
