Mel Goldberg, head of sport at legal firm Grower Freeman & Goldberg said that those fooball clubs spending over 50 percent of their turnover on wages are in danger of financial ruin, but, some clubs, such as Fiorentina, who spend over 85 percent of their revenues on salaries are "suicidal".
He says wages have managed to rise as television companies have continually offered more and more money for the rights to broadcast football matches. But he now says that the sport has finally reached breaking point.
"Is football worth it? Is there now a TV overkill? My information is that television companies think they have overpaid."
