Sky carriage for ITV Sport Channel 'imminent'

The much-maligned ITV Sport Channel could be available on satellite network BSkyB as soon as Tuesday, November 20 according to UK newspaper reports.

The Times newspaper reported that the two parties are currently undergoing technical trials with the launch of a full service 'imminent'.
No deal has been officially announced with the ITV Sport Channel reportedly haggling with BSkyB over the pricing of the carriage of the channel.
As an open platform, BSkyB must listen to such approaches from the ITV Sport Channel but that is as far as the network's obligations stretch.
Many analysts believe that the ITV Sport Channel, currently residing on the loss-making ITV Digital platform, must secure carriage on BSkyB if it is to survive, given the massive gap in the subscriber bases of the two.
Among the current array of sports rights held by the ITV Sport Channel include the European Rugby Cup, British Superbikes and the live rights to the Nationwide Football Leagues and the Worthington Cup, although the lucrative nature of the latter deal has led to media speculation that the contract is under threat.
