Downturn hits Daktronics interim results

Daktronics, the US-based large screen and video display manufacturer, has reported lower than expected second quarter revenues of $41.6 million (B

"Although revenues and earnings were less than our goals, we remain confident in our long-term prospects in the electronic display industry and committed to our leadership position within the industry,'' said Jim Morgan, president and CEO of Daktronics.

"Activity in the sports and transportation markets remains strong," Morgan added.
“However, sales of display products for commercial and retail applications have decreased from last year. Our revenues and earnings have been affected by the slower economic climate in the US, and accordingly, we have begun to make adjustments in our cost structure to bring costs in line.”

Daktronics recently launched the new ProStar DS transportable video display system developed specifically for clients that move their events to different venues, such as horse racing and golf tournaments.

Among the company's recent orders are display systems for the Detroit Lions' new Ford Field, the University of Pittsburgh and the Meadowlands Sports Complex.
