Shareholders are said to be concerned about the possible threat of a takeover of the club by Cubic Expressions, the company run by horse racing bosses JP McManus and John Magnier. Cubic recently increased its shareholding in Manchester United from 2.9 percent to 8.65 percent, second only to BSkyB.
Both men where questioned by the board about their intentions last month in a meeting that was described as "frosty".
Other financial matters arising will include the clubs impending ‘strategic alliance’ with Nike, which will come into effect next August and will generate £303m ($463m/B495m) over the next 13 years. Shareholders have expressed concerns about allegations that the sportswear company has been guilty of exploiting child labour.
Peter Kenyon, Manchester United’s chief executive, has also been asked to explain his stance against the Professional Football Associations’s (PFA) proposed strike and the reintorduction of standing areas for spectators at Old Trafford.
