PM ENTERTAINS FIFA DELEGATION

British Prime Minister Tony Blair threw open his Downing Street doors to a delegation from world soccer's governing body FIFA yesterday, hoping to convince them to back England's bid to host the 2006 World Cup.

Blair's spokesman said he would emphasise that Britain had the best grounds, the best infrastructure and the best security and that the government was totally behind the bid.
The spokesman said Blair would also focus on the drive to kick racism out of British football, describing the sport as a force for good.
The other nations bidding for the cup are Germany, Brazil, South Africa and Morocco.
FIFA's 24-member executive committee will base their nomination of the host country of the 2006 championships on the Rothenberg committee's recommendations.
A decision is due a week after the Euro 2000 championship final next July.
