CRICKET WORLD CUP PROFITS REVEALED

Last year's Cricket World Cup generated a #30m profit, according to a report by the England and Wales Cricket board.

The tournament was watched by 2.3billion television viewers in 29 countries .

England's failure to reach the second stage of the tournament lessened sponsorship income, but the organisers claimed that the presence of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh ensured that the competition was popular with the UK's ethnic minorities.

Terry Blake, the tournament director, said that, "The ECB achieved most of its objectives in delivering a well-organised, profitable event."
