MOROCCO: WC BID AS STRONG AS EVER

Morocco, in a move to reaffirm its bid to stage the 2006 World Cup, says it has no plans to withdraw from the competition to host the finals, an official statement said.

"Morocco will pursue its campaign to host the World Cup finals in 2006 with self-confidence and calmly," said the statement by the soccer body Association Maroc Mondial 2006.
It denied press reports and rumours on a possible withdrawal from the competition in favour of South Africa.
Hoping to make itself the sole African contender, South Africa last week urged Morocco to quit the race.
World soccer's governing body FIFA will send a team to South Africa for five days next month to evaluate the country's bid, South Africa's bid organisers said earlier this week.
Brazil, England and Germany are also in the race to stage the finals.
