SOUTH KOREA HOSTS SPORTS SITE START-UPS

South Korean sports site start?ups are proliferating and using US-based sports marketing models, according to a report from The Korean Times.

Stadium (www.stadium.co.kr), a sports-related information and betting services, now attracts 110,000 users and over 1 million people view the site daily. Said Kim Young-chul, president and CEO of Stadium: "Sports is always a top priority as an entertainment for the general public, but it has yet to be digitized as a portal. That's why I jumped into the sports portal business.?

Other Web start-ups include Arisoo Internet Inc. (www.sportsbetting.co.kr), which operates a cyber-sports betting site where users can place bets on soccer, baseball, basketball and other team games. Sportscom Co. (www.sportscom.co.kr), another sports portal provider, is promoting its cyber stock market (www.sportsdaq.com), targeting not the real stock but individual sports players.

Sportsdaq is currently attracting 4 million viewers per day with visitors placing a bet on their favorite players. Sports Bank Korea (www.ssbb.co.kr) is also eyeing the sports portal site. The company plans to offer sports information and game scores along with ticketing service and shopping opportunity for sports gears.
