German Football Federation (DFB) president Egidius Braun has been taken to hospital over the weekend, a DFB spokesman said.
Braun, 75, was not able to attend Sunday's Euro 2000 final between France and Italy and will also miss Thursday's FIFA meeting in Zurich where the race to stage the 2006 World Cup finals will be decided.
Germany are regarded as the favourites alongside South Africa. Also bidding are England, Brazil and Morocco.
A UEFA spokesman said Braun, who was taken to a hospital in his home town of Aachen because of a heart problem, was not in intensive care.
