AUSTRALIAN SPONSORS? OLYMPIC LESSONS FOR GOODWILL GAMES

Australian companies aim to learn from the mistakes made by sponsors dealing with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG), in anticipation of another major international sporting event hosted by an Australian city next year.

The largest sporting event to be held in Australia in 2001 will be the Goodwill Games in Brisbane (Queensland). 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane has the responsibility of locating the $A100m required to stage the event.

The role of attracting corporate sponsorship is held by the manager of marketing and sponsorship for the Goodwill Games, Philip Whittaker.

The naming rights for boxing and athletics have already been signed up by Foster's Brewing Group Limited.
