The bid by the University of Bath was reviewed by the English Sports Council and will now need to meet the conditions set by Sport England, as well as planning permission from the relevant local authority.
The plan, which includes a new indoor athletics centre, a 12 court sports hall, primarily for netball and badminton, as well as facilities for modern pentathlon and judo, with the Lawn Tennis Association funding an additional four indoor tennis court.
The total estimated project cost is estimated at between #23-27 million.
