SYDNEY STADIA GO HEAD TO HEAD

Sydney?s two major stadia, the Stadium Australia Group's Stadium Australia and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust's Sydney Football Stadium, have become keen commercial rivals.

Stadium Australia has only 20 post-Olympics events scheduled, but companies such as Evodia Marketing Management, SFX Entertainment and EMS Sports Management are lobbying the stadium?s owners not to reduce the seating capacity from more than 100,000 seats to 85,000 seats.

Sydney Football Stadium?s capacity is 40,000, but Stadium Australia has still managed to take business from them, causing the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust's operating profit falling to $A973,000 in the year to 29 February 2000 from $A3.84m for the previous year.
The company expects a stronger result in 2000-2001.
