SWEDEN?S MEDIA MOGUL BUYS STAKE IN SOCCER CLUB

Sweden?s answer to Rupert Murdoch, Jan Stenbeck, has bought a 17 per cent stake in soccer team Djurgarden. Stenbeck's company, Modern Times Group (MTG), owns several media companies, including the free commuter newspaper Metro which was introduced in the UK two years ago.

Djurgarden president Bo Lundqvist said: "With MTG's media knowledge and our sports experiences we'll work together forming several new projects, "

It is believed that Jan Stenbeck is aiming to take Djurgarden, newly promoted to the Swedish top-flight, to the Champions' League.
