DELAYS ON ALI SAMI YEN REDEVELOPMENT

The existing Ali Sami Yen was scheduled for demolition earlier this year. Turkish firm TML Insaat AS and British giant Bovis are the contractors working on the stadium scheme, which will feature a 40,000 stadium on the site of the existing ground plus offices, a cinema, restaurants and residential units. The two firms are going through a value management exercise with the club and the architect, Canadian practice Brisbin Brook Benyon. Work is now expected to start on site in July. The contract let to TML Insaat As and Bovis is believed to be the first construction management contract awarded in Turkey. Under the terms of the agreement, the two contractors will let large packages of work to sub-contract companies and then supervise these firms.
