Hopes raised again for Wembley

The Wembley National Stadium project could be back on track following a Football Association (FA) board meeting at the FA’s Soho Square headquarters.

Although the board said officially that “no definitive decision” has been reached on the issue, UK press reports suggest that board members are in favour of a new but slimmed-down Wembley.

The original Wembley project, which included offices and hotel would have cost £770million ($1,126m/B1,257m), Patrick Carver, the government adviser reviewing the stadium options, revealed.

The new proposal is put at £600m($877/B980m), including the £106m ($155m/B173m) price of the land, which was bought by the FA in 1999.
