The figures, however, showed the pace of new subscriber growth slowing when compared
with the first quarter of last year when 210,000 people signed up.
The media group posted a 24 percent rise in revenue to £643million ($942m/B1.04bn) for the three months ended September 30 and a loss before tax of £89m ($130m/B144m) compared with a loss of £123.6m ($180m/B199m) for the same period last year.
But the company is confident of positive cash flow in the financial year. Said BSkyB chief executive Tony Ball: "We have achieved our goal of becoming a fully digital service. Sky continues to attract high quality subscribers and to deliver strong revenue and profit growth despite the difficult advertising market.
“This is the sixth successive quarter in which we have increased year on year profitability and we remain on track to deliver positive free cashflow for the second half of the financial
year."
Average revenue per user grew 8 percent to £317 ($467m/B513m) a year, including interactive revenue per user of £13 ($19.04/B21.04).
