No agreement has been made between the British Horseracing Board (BHB) and the Bookmakers’ Committee on the future funding of the sport after two days of heated discussions between the two parties.
The sides met to discuss the replacement of the annual levy which has been collected by bookmakers from punters’ bets via the Levy Board since 1962. Also on the agenda was how much the BHB should be allowed to charge for pre-race data and live pictures.
The BHB demanded an annual fee of £130m ($190m/B209m) for access to data and pictures. Keith Brown, chairman of the Racecourse Association (RCA) and a member of the BHB and the Levy Board told sportbusiness.com
