Showsec’s management team for the Games has already moved into Commonwealth House in Manchester to begin work on the project and has been involved in extensive discussions and feasibility studies, examining all the associated health and safety, planning and logistical issues.
“The Commonwealth Games is the most significant sporting event to be held in the UK and we are honoured to help create a successful event,” said managing director Daan Terlingen.
“We will provide high levels of customer care to match the organisers' wishes for a ‘friendly games’.”
Mark Logan has been named as project director and will liaise with Commonwealth Games 2002 officers in the planning and implementation of the security operation. Showsec’s UK operational director Mark Harding will oversee the whole venture.
“Showsec will apply a great deal of its considerable experience and resources to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the athletes and spectators,” said Harding. “The sheer scale of the operation means that we are looking to recruit staff at several levels in the coming months, bolstering our team as we expand the depth of expertise within our ranks.”
Speaking from Commonwealth House, Bernard Ainsworth, chief operating officer, added: "The way in which spectators are taken care of at the Commonwealth Games is an important part of the lasting impression people will have. We are confident that Showsec will achieve high standards of friendliness and assurance."
Showsec is part of the International Crowd Management & Security Group (ICMS), Europe’s largest events crowd management company.
