The Accenture Triathlon Series, as it will be called, will start in late December. The sport’s ruling body, Triathlon Australia (TA) has worked with its partners, Sporting Frontiers, to attract a full complement of sponsors and secure extensive television exposure.
All rounds will be televised on Network Ten, with world champion triathletes and amateurs competing on a unified stage for awards such as Australian Triathlete of the Year and the Australian Rookie of the Year as well as rewards from the massive series prize pool of more than A$500 000 ($253,000/B279,000).
The final two events of the five-round Accenture series incorporates events, the results of which determine which athletes represent Australia at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England and the World Championships in Mexico.
The Series kicks off with Sprint events in Manly on December 23, followed by a short course showdown on the Gold Coast on January 13. On January 27, athletes head for Victoria’s St. Kilda Beach for the Australia Day weekend battle before Canberra hosts the longer Olympic distance on February 17 and Geelong the finale on March 31.
