Speedway Motorsports makes Forbes list

Forbes magazine has added The New York stock exchange-listed Speedway Motorsports (SMI) to its '200 Best Small Companies' list.

The list was published in the October 29 issue and ranking is determined on six equally measured factors, including return on equity, sales and earnings-per-share growth.

"The fact that SMI has been included on the list in three of the past five years strongly confirms the validity of our business strategy,” said H.A. Wheeler, chief operating officer and president of Speedway Motorsports.

“Consistent inclusion in this group is validation of the achievements and accomplishments of Speedway Motorsports employees since 1995.''

The Forbes 200 Small Companies has a median five-year average return on equity of 15 percent, earnings-per-share growth of 29 percent and sales growth of 22 percent. Less than 1 percent of those companies eligible made the elite list.

SMI owns and operates six motorsports facilities: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Lowe's Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Sears Point Raceway, and Texas Motor Speedway.

The company also owns Performance Racing Network, which broadcasts syndicated motorsports programming to over 750 radio stations in the US, and via its Finish Line Events subsidiary, provides event food, beverage and souvenir merchandising.
