Club World Championship under spotlight

World soccer's governing body FIFA has lined up a series of key committee meetings to be staged at its Zurich headquarters – among them a planning meeting for the 2003 Club World Championship.

The competition had been shelved this year after Brazilian agent Traffic was unable to raise enough sponsorship or broadcast interest – although FIFA publicly blamed the cancellation on the collapse of its marketing arm, ISL.

The tournament will be discussed on October 31.

Meanwhile, the FIFA Committee for Women’s Football on October 30 will hear reports on plans for the 2003 Women’s World Cup due to take place in China.

Among the other key meetings taking place will be the technical committee, also on October 30 – discussing regulations concerning artificial turf, while the creation of the Arbitration Tribunal for Football (TAF) and the International Chamber for Football Arbitration (CIAF) will be the central themes for the Committee for Legal Matters on October 31.
