The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has confirmed the US team is to pull out of the Federation Cup finals in Madrid next month.
The move is the latest sporting casualty following increasing security concerns after the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Said ITF president Francesco Bitti: "The American team is very disappointed that they will not be able to represent their country in this year's Fed Cup World finals but we respect their concerns."
The ITF will now have to name a replacment nation for the tournament which takes place between November 7-11.
